Environmental and Recycling Club

Club Description:  The Environmental Club meets on Wednesday after school every two weeks. A primary concern of the club is to work with the International Coastal Organization and other local cleanup groups to help restore natural areas around the city. The club picks up trash in natural areas and plants native species to improve the environment. Members of the club bring awareness to significant environmental issues and educate the high school community about the issues on selected days. Also, in November members place boxes in selected locations for papers to be recycled and pick up the boxes on National Recycling Day. Students are divided into groups and each group is responsible for a floor or a wing of one of the four buildings. This activity provides the schools with their only recycling program. Overall, the club provides students with an introduction to environmental awareness and offers community service hours.
